The Joy Of Being

Be silent for a moment.

Pay attention.

Feel what the experience of this moment is like.

Not the sensations or sights or sounds.

Just the experience of being alive.

If you are perceptive enough, you will notice there is an inherent joy in this feeling.

This illuminates a fundamental truth about the human experience: existence itself is happiness.

Or, phrased differently, consciousness is bliss.

The truth is that misery does not exist.

It is imagined, and because we believe the imaginings of our mind we come to experience them.

If you look for the root substance of misery, you will eventually fail to find it.

It is a building without a foundation.

A magnificent structure built over an empty abyss.

The pure joy of being can be felt on a moment to moment basis.

It can become the backdrop of your entire life.

But the secret to achieving this is to approach it through negation.

If existence itself is joy, then joy cannot be sought.

Rather you must remove all that has obscured it.

As always, the best approach is to begin with what you have.

Look at the content of your mind.

Figure out why it’s there.

It isn’t a complicated process, though people expect it to be.

In fact it’s the most simple process in the world.

Look at your mind and take note of what you see.

Watch your reactions, learn to understand them.

Gradually you will begin to change the landscape of your mind.
