Meaning

What does it mean to say life has meaning? A thing has meaning when it points beyond itself. It requires something else to justify its existence.

A word has meaning because it points to a concept. Without the concept, the word is meaningless. It has no reason to exist.

When people ponder the question of whether life has any meaning, they don’t do it because they are looking for truth. It isn’t a logical inquiry. It is psychologically motivated. If they conclude life has meaning, they will be happy. If not, they will be sad.

Needless to say truth is never reached in such a way.

And the truth is that life has no meaning. It doesn’t require justification.

Life itself is enough.

To think otherwise is pessimism.
