A Serious Goal

Enlightenment is not a serious goal.

Peace is a serious goal. Freedom from the mind is a serious goal. Becoming wealthy is a serious goal.

But enlightenment is not.

Enlightenment is not a serious goal because you don’t even know what enlightenment is.

That’s why so many people waste their life in search of it.

A serious person does not set out in search of enlightenment. Or, rather, he probably does. At first. But he eventually realizes his mistake.

In realizing his mistake, he decides not to seek anything unless he first knows what he is seeking.

So he sits down and tries to discover what the self truly is.

And that is where his search begins and ends.
